Brown’s Found It! It’s “Aspiration”

THE LOST CAUSE … er VISION
Well the ‘clunking fist’ shook a bit today in nervous tension rather than anger, as David Cameron got to him in their parliamentary knockabout after the Queen’s Speech. Although the fists might well have flown if it hadn’t been for the three sword-lengths separating the foes.
Oh I DO miss Blair’s lightness of touch and gentle put-down of the opponent without rancour. I bet the Tories, and in particular Cameron, miss the Blair banter too.
There’s nothing wrong with the fact that GB/PM was evidently ill at ease yesterday. Tony Blair, the consummate political performer, said in his last PMQs that “from first to last” he “feared” these occasions. The only difference is that I don’t remember noticing Blair ever looking afraid, even on the rare occasion where a blow was landed on him.
[Shut up now, BlairSupporter, about the present PM. Enough of your CONSTANT criticism of the poor man.
O.K. I'll try.]
But I really don’t think GB/PM’s found the vision yet. Somehow I doubt if he ever will.
The inspiration of “aspiration”?
“Aspiration” is motherhood and apple pie. We all have it; when we’re three, we want to be big and able to read and write - we aspire. When we’re 13 we want to be older and more interesting and attractive - we aspire. When we’re 23 we want to be successful and happy, personally and/or financially. And that aspiration kind of hangs on forever.
And since the ‘education, education, education’ aspiration of Blair hasn’t quite run its course yet (it needs another ten years … [of Blair]), many people don’t actually know what the “aspiration” word means. But it sounds good. Kind of … well, aspirational, I suppose.
The trouble for Brown is, as I’ve said elsewhere at this blog, that Mr Blair long ago provided us with most, if not ALL of the New Labour vision. And Brown knows there’s no Old Labour vision that will appeal to anyone except the Left of his party, and he’s not after their votes.
They’re stuck with him, and don’t they all know it.
He’s in a quandary as to where to find a vision that will appeal to Middle Britain voters and still keep the party’s Blair haters on board.
As for the content of The Queen’s Gracious Speech … well; nuff said.
I really don’t feel like hammering on here tonight. I hate to see someone in such pain. Even GB/PM.
Maybe he WILL get it together some time soon. Who knows? Catch a flying pig …
By the way, I could give GB/PM a vision, if he’d ask me. But he hasn’t. So, I know my place. I’m not a *GOAT, it would seem.
*GOAT = Government of all the talents.
