UPDATE 27th August 2010: A commenter, rafee, at this blog has dismissed the below on the grounds that we “infidels & Kafirs” need to read the Qur’an before we comment. Here I have added some quotes from Islam’s writings and good books. I await his response to these, and thank him for the opportunity to update this post.

ON the other hand if this commenter is NOT British he’d better not try to enter this elective dictatorship. He’d be most clearly unwelcome as far as our governm … dhimmiment is concerned.

Islam …
1) Is a mind-control and information-control cult founded by a murderer, torturer, brigand, rapist and pedophile called Mohammed. The mind-control and information-control aspects require that all criticism be silenced.
2) Is Mohammed’s personality cult. Has no foundations other than Mo’s murderous rantings (Koran and Hadith). The Koran consists of two conflicting parts – Meccan and Medinan (peaceful and violent respectively). The Medinan stuff supersedes (‘abrogates’) the Meccan stuff. Muslims act Medinan, but quote Meccan verses to the gullible infidels.
3) Claims to worship the same God as Christians and Jews, but in fact worships Allah – a demonic channelling through Mohammed’s psychopathic ego. The Death Cult mixes garbled versions of Christian and Jewish scriptures with pagan practices such as moon and meteorite-worship, and cut-throat blood sacrifice of animals and non-believers.
4) Has no rational, philosophical nor theological basis, and the whole belief-system is contradicted by science, philosophy, commonsense, human decency and internal inconsistency.
5) Cannot withstand rational criticism. Can only spread and maintain itself by ignorance, illiteracy, war, terrorism, and intimidation. Islam has bloody borders and cannot co-exist peacefully with other belief systems. Winston Churchill said that Islam in a man is as dangerous as hydrophobia (rabies) in a dog.
6) Has a superstitious dread of images of pigs, crosses, Buddhas, Saint George (and his flag) and of course Motoons.
7) Regards Islamic women as semihuman. Wife-beating, incest and child abuse (including mufa’khathat or ‘thighing’ – the ritual abuse of infants) are encouraged.
8) Regards all unbelievers (Kaffirs, Kuffar, Kufrs, Kafirs) as ritually unclean subhumans to be killed, subjugated, enslaved, exploited or parasitised. Kafirs are described by the Arabic word ‘najis’ – literally ‘filth’. That’s why Muslim hatred of Kafirs is intrinsic to their ‘religion’. A Kafir doesn’t need to DO anything to offend a Muslim, his very existence is enough of an affront.
9) The ethical system applies only to Muslims. Allah encourages rape, pillage, extortion and enslavement of non-Muslims. Morality does not extend beyond the global gang (ummah). Muslim ethics are the ethics of the Mafia.
10) Allah’s followers are motivated by hatred, greed and lust. There is no love, mercy or compassion. Allah is vindictive, unpredictable, capricious and devious – “Allah leads astray whom he pleases”.
11) The only religion NOT founded on The Golden Rule. Morality is based on Mohammed’s example. If Mohammed did it then it’s OK for all Muslims. Hence the encouragement of rape, pillage, subjugation and murder of non-believers and the institutionalised pedophilia prevalent throughout Muslim society (justified by Mohammed’s activities with Ayesha, his child sex-slave – see and listen to http://islamcomicbook.com/lyrics1.htm).
12) All human relations are defined by Dominance/Subjugation. Muslims have schizoid inferiority/superiority complexes. (A well-balanced Muslim is one with a chip on each shoulder). They respect strength but despise compromise as weakness. Appeasement invites more aggression. The only political system which has been strong enough to subjugate Islam is Stalinism.
13) Polygamy ensures alpha-males get extra women, leading to a shortage of women for the betas. Beta-males must either jerk off (a sin leading to hell), or form dog-packs and rape or capture kafir women as booty in a razzia, or else self-destruct in the presence of infidels then they can screw 72 mythical virgins in Allah’s bordello in the sky (see and listen to http://islamcomicbook.com/lyrics3.htm. Beta-males are often encouraged by their relatives to become suicide bombers because of the belief that such murderous ‘martyrs’ will be able to intercede with Allah to take 70 of their relatives to paradise with them.
14) Lying and deception of infidels (taqiyya) is encouraged. This may take many forms, including outright lies, feigned moderation, and condemnation of terrorist attacks to the Kaffir while rejoicing with fellow Muslims. All Muslims need to regard themselves as victims of some group of Kafirs so they can harbor grudges against them and against Kafirs in general. Individuals may appear law-abiding and reasonable, but they are part of a totalitarian movement, and must be considered potential killers who can flip in an instant (SJS -’Sudden Jihad Syndrome’).
15) Muslims are forbidden to befriend Kaffirs except for purposes of deceit or where conversion may be possible.
16) The Koran is Allah’s final word and cannot be changed or challenged. To do so is punishable by death. Consequently, the Death Cult can never change or be reformed. The instructions to murder and rape infidels are just as valid now as the day they were written. Since Islam cannot be modernised, the Muslims are attempting to Islamise modernity. This requires spreading Islam in the West and simultaneously preventing any criticism of the cult by intimidation and PC legislation to curtail freedom of expression.
17) Treaties and agreements with Kaffirs are made to be broken (Hudna). The word of a Muslim to a Kafir counts for nothing in the eyes of Allah. Allah is The Father Of Lies.
18) The world is divided between Dar-al-Islam and Dar-al-Harb (the domain of war, the Kufr lands). Muslims living in Dar-al-Harb must work to disrupt their host nations until these can be brought into Dar-al-Islam.
19) Muslims have no obligation to their host nations and in fact are encouraged to parasitise them. Welfare fraud, identity theft, forgery etc are endemic in Western Muslim populations, and serious crime against Kaffirs is regarded as normal and justified. Extortion rackets against Kafirs are mandated by the Koran (‘jizya’ is the Arabic term for ‘protection money’ payable by Jews and Christians to Muslims).
20) The attack on the host nation isn’t just against its religion and economy, but is aimed at its very cultural identity. Islam is a complete system, including a culture, which Muslims regard as superior (despite all evidence to the contrary) to other cultures. Muslims are therefore required to destroy the symbols of ‘Jahiliya’ (sometimes sp. Jahiliyya) – non-Muslim culture. In the East this has included destruction of Hindu temples and Christian churches and replacement with mosques, and destruction of Buddhist artwork and universities and replacement with heaps of rubble. This process of cultural replacement is now beginning in the West.

Blair and Bush have damaged relations between east and west and between Christians and Muslims. This has made the world a more dangerous place to live in.
That is unforgivable.
Blair may have had the power to wage war in the innocent but not the moral authority to decide who should pay for 9/11. He acted like a tin-pot dictator and bend down for Bush.
They are both war criminals plain and simple.

You are talking historically ignorant rot. It’s a widespread belief, due to the press and the “liberal intelligentsia” (both of these words require their own inverted commas actually). So you can rest assured that you are NOT alone. However that does not make this kind of facile statement right.
Nor, it should go without saying, your last sentence, which proves the shallow commitment from such as yourself to the rule of law. You are an anti-democrat, pure and simple.

Islam is to just surrender u r will to ALLAH, Allah is the only lord who created the earths and heavens. Quran or Hadith never say to kill an innocent, they are some foolish infedels or kafirs who does’nt underastand the islam they are always against it.

you will no doubt be interested to know that I surrender NOTHING to someone else’s idea of a God or of a God’s will. Partly because none of that “surrender” nonsense makes the teensy weensiest bit of intellectual sense when so many Muslims disagree about what God’s (Allah’s) will is. Surely Islamist fundamentalists’ interpretation of Allah’s will is NOT the same as yours?
You can plead all you like that the foolish infidels or kafirs (like me, presumably?) don’t understand Islam or are “always againsts it.” At least the second part of that contention is UNTRUE. Personally I cared as little about ANY religion as I cared about garden gnomes until very recently. I certainly wasn’t against Islam, as you seem to be contending. People like you, so convinced in your certainties and the countless, almost daily attacks on Muslims and non-Muslims have made me look at this religion far more seriously. THAT is why I am now concerned about it. If people want to be Muslims, and those I know seem perfectly normal balanced people, that’s fine with me. If they want to subscribe to a politicised religion which aims to make my democratic country into some kind of religious non-democratic CALIPHATE where Allah’s (Sharia) Law rules OK, that’s NOT OK.
I will include some links in a follow-on comment reply so that readers can understand Islam as it is written in your Holy Books. Then when you have read them, and checked them out, as I am sure you will, please come back and explain what it is that WE do not understand.

Taqiyya – Saying something that isn’t true.

Qur’an (16:106) – Establishes that there are circumstances that can “compel” a Muslim to tell a lie.
Qur’an (3:28) – This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to “guard themselves.”
Qur’an (9:3) – “…Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters…” The dissolution of oaths with the pagans who remained at Mecca following its capture. They did nothing wrong, but were evicted anyway.
Qur’an (40:28) – A man is introduced as a believer, but one who must “hide his faith” among those who are not believers.
Qur’an (2:225) – “Allah will not call you to account for thoughtlessness in your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts”
Qur’an (66:2) – “Allah has already ordained for you, (O men), the dissolution of your oaths”
Qur’an (3:54) – “And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.” The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means deceit. If Allah is deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same. (See also 8:30 and 10:21)
From the Hadith:
Bukhari (52:269) – “The Prophet said, ‘War is deceit.’” The context of this is thought to be the murder of Usayr ibn Zarim and his thirty unarmed men by Muhammad’s men after he “guaranteed” them safe passage (see Additional Notes below).
Bukhari (49:857) – “He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar.” Lying is permitted when the end justifies the means.
Bukhari (84:64-65) – Speaking from a position of power at the time, Ali confirms that lying is permissible in order to deceive an “enemy.”
Bukhari (50:369) – Recounts the murder of a poet, Ka’b bin al-Ashraf, at Muhammad’s insistence. The men who volunteered for the assassination used dishonesty to gain Ka’b's trust, pretending that they had turned against Muhammad. This drew the victim out of his fortress, whereupon he was brutally slaughtered despite putting up a ferocious struggle for his life.
From Islamic Law:
Reliance of the Traveler (p. 746 – 8.2) – “Speaking is a means to achieve objectives. If a praiseworthy aim is attainable through both telling the truth and lying, it is unlawful to accomplish through lying because there is no need for it. When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible (N:i.e. when the purpose of lying is to circumvent someone who is preventing one from doing something permissible), and obligatory to lie if the goal is obligatory… it is religiously precautionary in all cases to employ words that give a misleading impression…
“One should compare the bad consequences entailed by lying to those entailed by telling the truth, and if the consequences of telling the truth are more damaging, one is entitled to lie.

keeptonyblairforpm, I see nothing in your list of Qur’an quotes that isn’t matched and surpassed by the Bible. The Qur’an seems quite tame in comparison if that’s the worst it has to offer, yet you don’t often see the same xenophobic opposition to Christianity in the west on the basis that it is intrinsically violent and immoral and incompatible with modern western values.

Bob, yes, I agree there is a hell of a lot of nasty violence in the Bible too. For the sake of balance, perhaps you can send them to us. I have other ends to pursue right now. The reason we don’t hear opposition (and it isn’t “xenophobic” btw, I have no concerns over others’ race, country or creed, only this religion – political religion and its influence) – is that Christians largely disregard the nasty stuff in the Old Testament, wherin lies most of the violence. And Jews, who do follow the Old Testament, don’t go around killing at God’s command.
My main point therefore is that today in the west we do not go about killing people and ourselves yelling the Christian or Jewish equivalent of “Allahu Akhbar”. In other words we do not kill in the name of God. Fundamentalist Islamists do and they quote the koran as their authority so to do. The koran cannot be changed, for fear of death. The bible has been updated and frequently so over the centuries. As for Jewish good books, I don’t know enough about them, so I won’t opine much. But I have yet to hear of Jewish terrorists who kill because God told them to.

Well I’m not going to go and gather a bunch of quotes cos frankly I CBA, but there is alot worse in the Old testament then you posted, stuff about god ordering the Israelites to attack city’s and kill everyone women and children included because they worshipped a different god, god’s rules about slavery included the proper way to beat your slave even to the point of death. Sometimes I wonder if the average Christian even knows this stuff is in the bible.
Anyway my main point is the double standard that is being posed by this site and alot of people with extreme oppositions to Islam and this idea that there are no moderate Muslims, that they are all a bunch of murdering psychopaths out to kill us all. If we made the same assertion about Christians based on their holy book it would be right laughed off as stupid.
Of course there is a minority within the Muslim community who want to wage some kind of holy war on the West but you can’t condemn an entire religion of 1billion people based on the actions of a tiny minority or some quotes from a book. Most people Christian or Muslim have enough sense and moral fortitude not so go around murdering people because a book told them too.

OK, Bob. It’s your prerogative on what you search for and post, of course.
The point is that no-one lives by any of that ancient Christianity/Jewish blood-curdling stuff today. And although, yes, only a few Muslims in comparison to their numbers actually murder – but those smatterings of the few ARE doing it almost daily. And they ARE doing it in the name of Allah, as the former Islamist fundamentalist points out at a recent post which I have used here.

Even that kind of killing we could continue to ignore as we do at present. But there is more to worry the civilised world than just that. We do not seem to understand that the koran is supposedly Mohammad’s instructions from Allah, and is decreed unchangeable and unchallengeable.
And with no top dog in Islam – Pope-like equivalent – WHO is going to be strong enough or brave enough to tell them it is time to actually modernise their religion?
There is no double standard here in my argument. If Christians or Jews were killing daily TODAY, not hundreds even thousands of years ago (it’s today I am concerned about) I’d be just as vociferous in my noises against.
I do not think there are no moderate Muslims nor do I condemn a whole religion – not completely, even if it sounds like that at times. Moderate Muslims include the aforementioned Tawfik Hamid for a start. And all of my Muslim friends are moderate. That is not the point of pointing out who needs to make changes to Islam. It isn’t me and it isn’t you. Perhaps you’re perfectly happy with the general silence from the Muslim world on these issues. Dr Hamid isn’t and I’m not. That does not mean I am against the people who happen to be Muslim. Just the brainwashing that means this, as Dr Hamid points out in his words to his fellow-Muslims:
So there is more to be concerned about than just the suicidal/murdering business. There is the treatment of women and gays and of those who are unfaithful or apostates.
I think these issues are important, especially if held by a billion people around the world. If you don’t, well, we’ll have to agree to differ.
Btw, the main reason many people don’t know about the blood-curdling stuff in the bible is because it has no relevance to our lives today. We do not use that as reason to murder others TODAY. I repeat it is today that concerns me, and the actions of those today who put ancient scriptures into bloodletting practice. In the name of God.

The Qur’an commands Muslims to stick up for themselves in a defensive battle — i.e. if an enemy army attacks, then Muslims are to fight against that army until they stop their aggression. All of the verses that speak about fighting/war in the Qur’an are in this context.
There are some specific verses that are very often “snipped” out of context, either by critics of Islam discussing “jihadism,” or by misguided Muslims themselves who wish to justify their aggressive tactics.
“Slay Them” – If They Attack You First
For example, one verse (in its snipped version) reads: “slay them wherever you catch them” (Qur’an 2:191). But who is this referring to? Who are “they” that this verse discusses? The preceding and following verses give the correct context:
“Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter… But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful… If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression” (2:190-193).
It is clear from the context that these verses are discussing a defensive war, when a Muslim community is attacked without reason, oppressed and prevented from practicing their faith. In these circumstances, permission is given to fight back — but even then Muslims are instructed not to transgress limits, and to cease fighting as soon as the attacker gives up. Even in these circumstances, Muslim are only to fight directly against those who are attacking them, not innocent bystanders or non-combatants.
“Fight the Pagans” – If They Break Treaties
A similar verse can be found in chapter 9, verse 5 — which in its snipped, out of context version could read: “fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war).” Again, the preceding and following verses give the context.
This verse was revealed during a historical period when the small Muslim community had entered into treaties with neighboring tribes (Jewish, Christian, and pagan). Several of the pagan tribes had violated the terms of their treaty, secretly aiding an enemy attack against the Muslim community. The verse directly before this one instructs the Muslims to continue to honor treaties with anyone who has not since betrayed them, because fulfilling agreements is considered a righteous action. Then the verse continues, that those who have violated the terms of the treaty have declared war, so fight them… (as quoted above).
Directly after this permission to fight, the same verse continues, “but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them… for God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.” The subsequent verses instruct the Muslims to grant asylum to any member of the pagan tribe/army who asks for it, and again reminds that “as long as these stand true to you, stand ye true to them: for God loves the righteous.”
Conclusion
Any verse that is quoted out of context misses the whole point of the message of the Qur’an. Nowhere in the Qur’an can be found support for indiscriminate slaughter, the killing of non-combatants, or murder of innocent persons in ‘payback’ for another people’s alleged crimes.
The Islamic teachings on this subject can be summed up in the following verses (Qur’an 60:7-8):
“It may be that God will grant love (and friendship) between you and those whom ye (now) hold as enemies. For God has power (over all things), and God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
God does not forbid you, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for God loves those who are just.”

Sadly, many of us are still concerned because of the proliferation of murder (mainly Muslim on Muslim) by some who claim Allah as their guide. They hog the headlines, and there are nothing like enough on YOUR moderate side consistently disowning them, it seems.

So you pick out the most common misunderstood ayahs from the Qur’an. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you don’t agree with a religions beliefs, then stay away from it. You don’t have to try to drown everyone else in your deceit. Islam is a religion of peace. If you took the time to pick out those certain ayahs, why don’t you do yourself a favor and read the rest of it and see for yourself. It’s okay that you don’t understand. You are among the disbelievers, the one who Allah has set a veil over because no matter what word is said to you, you will not believe. The devil has won you over and on the Day of Judgment, you will see. I just wish people could try to understand it instead of put it down. People like you disgust me.

but there is alot worse in the Old testament then you posted, stuff about god ordering the Israelites to attack city’s and kill everyone women and children included because they worshipped a different god, god’s rules about slavery included the proper way to beat your slave even to the point of death. Sometimes I wonder if the average Christian even knows this stuff is in the bible.
I think I will have to explain Jesus Christ’s mandate to answer this completely, for which a posting in this forum may not be sufficient. But I can give you one reason here which is enough to prove your statement wrong.
Christian Bible has an Old Testament describing events that happened before Jesus, and a New Testament describing the arrival of Jesus, his life, and the growth of the Church after his crucifixion.
Christians follow Jesus who had to be born to save a world full of sin and crime from the Devil’s plan for its eternal destruction.
Jesus corrected many times, the wrong interpretation of the Jewish Scriptures by the corrupt pharisees- (the Jewish priests of his time).
While the Pharisees thought that only killing a man was sin, Jesus taught that even harbouring malice in your hearts against even your enemy is a sin.
Christians follow the teachings of Jesus, though in the Bible, you may find teachings of many other people. But they all have to be interpreted as Jesus would have done, because unlike the Jews who did not accept Jesus as their Saviour – (they even crucified Him) , Christians follow Jesus Christ and believe that He is the Way, and the Truth.
Unlike Mohd (PBUH), who fought wars, killed people, and had sex with easy widows and minors, and many others, you can not even imagine Jesus harming anybody (He practiced what He taught- show the other cheek when you are hit on one). He converted a prostitute into a saint, and saved her from being stoned to death. Though you will see in the Bible that Jews stoned prostitutes to death, Jesus was not for it. Instead he forgave her her sins and saved her physically and spiritually.
I hope that you will now see the difference between Christianity and Islam, when you read the Bible and the Quran.

Not sure if you are responding to me or to another commenter. It may be to to another commenter. But, I just ask, unless you are a Muslim, why do you feel the need to say this?
Surely that is what Muslims say when referring to Mohamed, not the rest of us? Presumably you are being sarcastic.
Back to your original points.
This post is NOT about the Old Testament or even the New Testament. But if you want to raise these, as though it somehow SHOULD be about them, the Old Testament ‘s calls to kill the enemy are largely ignored by Jews and Christians alike. People today put that kind of business into its historical context and dismiss it as of no modern-day relevance. That isn’t (always) the case with Islam’s Holy Books. Clear to see when you look at religious fundamentalist terrorism today. These murderous acts are almost invariably done by those who say they are Muslim, often citing the divine inspiration of the koran.
I hate to inject a note of cynicism here but some might wonder if Jesus’s story would be so powerful had he lived longer than his 33 years, and had had the chance to become unpopular. Some also might wonder why it took him so long to start into his ministry. He only delivered God’s message for the last three years of his life.
But there we go.
I don’t see your statement “proves” anything, actually. We all know the Bible has two testaments, even Muslims know that. They even have their own name for the “people of the Book”.
