BLAIRITES – ARE THE ‘DIRTY DOZEN’ INTO POLITICAL TRICKERY?

This story in The Telegraph of up to a dozen Blairites threatening to defect … thinking of defecting to the Liberal Democrats has got me wondering.

    They CAN’T mean it!

If they are true “Blairites” how could they ever live within the party which despite many worthies was so utterly wrong about the Iraq invasion? And so superciliously convinced they were uniquely right?

    It makes no sense.

I can only interpret this as a cry for one thing … [drumroll ... purlease]

    THE RETURN OF THE BLAIR!

    tony-blair-clunkingfist

Was Tony Blair the "clunking fist" that ...erm... Mr Blair referred to just before he left office?

Yes, he is no longer an MP, so a way back isn’t obvious. But, where there’s a will … and ‘Lord’ Blair wouldn’t be THAT hard to stomach, surely?

And yes, he is highly committed in several areas of life – his Faith Foundation/Middle East peace process/EU presidency bid/Africa/Sports Foundation/Climate concerns/business interests  …

But, hey … this is THE BLAIR we’re talking about. ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE.

SWORD OF DAMACLES HANGING OVER BLAIR – AGAIN?

So what ARE the Magnificent Twelve up to? Blair was depending on them and their ilk to carry forth the torch for New Labour.  Now it seems they are desperate over a drowning Brown and the stew they are all cooking in.  They are at a loss as to how their limited numbers can make ANY progress in the Labour Party after Brown’s likely election defeat.  And apart from that there are European elections in six weeks, which the electorate will treat as a general election and kick Labour appropriately – perhaps even harder than they will when it comes to the general election.

The Left/Old Labour is on the warpath for the soul of the party. The party which won by being New and Blairite. THREE TIMES!

It is presently gripped in a deathlike vice by a leader who seems to have lost it, assuming he ever had it to begin with. The soul of the party is being wrenched back to a previous existence.

And if there’s anything that Tony Blair thinks is worth fighting for it’s souls.

If I am right, this is intriguing, and politics at its most engaging, not to say devious.

By threatening defection, his friends are actually threatening him and his legacy as Labour’s saviour.

And if there’s another thing that Mr Blair is cut out for, it’s saving things.

Watch this space, and place your bets.

    ETECETERA

    MISSING IT, THEN, MR BLAIR?

  • On Canada’s CTV channel’s recently Mr Blair admitted that he misses - well – something or other. Listen to this, the second part of a 2-part interview (3:28). (The 1st part (7:19) is here.)  He says this near the end (2:30) and only in response to the direct question – “Do you miss it? Do you miss politics?”  More here.

“Erm .. you know, I was ten years … it’s a long time … probably too long for some people  … but it’s …  erm … er no it’s … from time to time, when there’s a really big thing going on you kind of think you know that’d be nice … but  actually I love the things I’m doing now…” etc etc …

Note that he doesn’t say that he misses ‘politics’ but automatically refers to his “ten years” (as PM). Now  THAT’S noteworthy.  He was actually a member of parliament for 24 years  – and “in politics”, even before that.

This is the FIRST time I have heard him even hint at “missing” it, even if he is kind of busy right now.

At this point, any leader that will help Britain, a wonderful country, get its democracy back. I particularly feel concern over the Liton protests and high-ranking Muslims in your country choosing who gets to protest, who gets to speak to parliament, and who gets to enter the country.

I saw Hitchens on HBO not too long ago after some kind of incident in lebanon where apparently a radical group from Syria patrols some of the streets. He was talking about some of what is happening in Britain and the goals of radical Muslims. We continue to try and teach this to progressives on the left. Most of them are pretty concerned and supportive, but the mainstream media is still not where it needs to be, which is considering all sides of the debate with a wider variety of commentators with pespectives that differ from one another (although it is a lot better than before).

Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us up-to-date on Britain’s work as well

        Hi there,

There’s a long way to go before the left in the media here AND in the country s a whole “get it”. They are still deeply in denial, aided and abetted by the biased BBC. See my earlier post on this, using a NRO post from 2003 at the start of the Iraq war.

And to them bringing back the “war criminal” would be a retrograde step.

Since it was announced we are set to leave Iraq, the other day, they are pushing for another Inquiry, with the aim of finding all the facts on WMDs. The final aim being to get Tony Blair behind bars, of course … since hanging isn’t allowed.

I’d love to see a polling organisation test the waters on any possible Blair return as PM. I don’t think the average punter feels the same as the liberal Intelligentsia.

You referred to Lebanon. I am about to use this article at a post.

It has some VERY elucidating information, which of course will make NO difference whatsoever to those who see Islamist militants as no threat to the world.

        Quote:

The only outlier in this pattern is Iraq. But then, Iraq is the only country in the region where the West overthrew an enemy regime and retained an empowered military force in the country in the years that followed. What will happen in Iraq once US forces are withdrawn is an open question.

Thre is NO political leader or politician in any of the main three parties in Britain presently hitting this ball hard – even softly. They are all under some sort of vow of silence, it seems.

I really have NO IDEA if Blair would consider returning, even if begged (which he should be) by that useless crowd he left behind. But he has recently been saying stronger stuff on Islamists. Thus I’m still here ;0)

Btw, I read today that the young woman many were campaigning to save has now been executed in Iran. Will write more when I find it online.
