Tony Blair: Anyone for Tennis? Greg? Kids? All 10,000 of You!?

BLAIR DESERVES THANKS FOR THIS  – YOU FIRST-RATE WALLIES!

If any government organisation had managed to get 10,000 youngsters into tennis in the last year, we’d never have heard the end of it from the Sports Minister. But when Tony Blair does it through his Sports Foundation, well – tchh … tchh … he can afford it!

I have had to conclude in recent times that there is something psychologically WRONG with many of my fellow countrymen; or perhaps it’s only fellow bloggers. You only need to glance at some of the remarks made after his interview with the BBC’s Mihir Bose to wonder – ARE THEY ALL BONKERS!?

When WILL they understand that THEY have been used by the discredited press for the press’s own political agenda?

GAME, SET & MATCH TO BLAIR

Iraq? Yes and Afghanistan. And Kosovo. And Sierra Leone. And of course Northern Ireland will go down in history as game, set and match to Blair and his political judgement.

In the meantime, for Gawd’s sake – throw the man a towel for training our kids and for keeping the Olympics ball in the air.  SOMEONE has to.

Gordon?

TOO KNACKERED
According to Austin Mitchell, he’s too “knackered” to play footsie with himself. In the article, Mr Mitchell said the prime minister needed a gifted press secretary to turn around his image.

He wrote: “Gordon needs a press secretary of genius.

“Bernard Ingham created Margaret Thatcher and Alastair Campbell made Tony Blair. “They did it by joining the dots, filling in the blanks, building the image and turning fragile humans into decisive Supermen.”

He added: “Gordon has no one like that. So his frailties are not concealed and his indecisiveness gets out.”

‘10,000 children from 350 schools across the North East have picked up a racquet and received tennis coaching from the Tony Blair Sports Foundation this year. These figures came as Tony Blair attends the Foundation’s Tennis Challenge Cup final at the Sunderland Tennis Centre today.

More than 2,800 North East school children have taken part in this year’s competition. Tony Blair, who set up the Foundation just eighteen months ago, said:

“When you consider that 256 children from 32 schools took part in the competition last year and ten times that number have been involved this year, it really is an incredible achievement. It shows us all that when you give young people the chance to pick up a racquet and start playing, they do take it.

“I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made at the Foundation, but it won’t stop here. With 2012 less than three years away, we need to use the inspiration and motivation of the Olympics to increase the range of opportunities available in the North East. We need to keep working with Greg, Brendan, the LTA and other partners to build the sporting infrastructure that will revitalise grassroots sport in the lead up to the greatest sporting event.”

Alongside former British No.1 tennis player, Greg Rusedski and founder of the Great North Run, Brendan Foster, Tony met some of the 36 new North East tennis coaches that have come through the Sports Foundation structure. Commenting on the future of sport in the North East, Tony Blair said:

“These young men and women are now starting to coach others and are just part of a stronger sporting infrastructure. We need to keep giving young people the chance to volunteer, to train and to play tennis. We all have a part to play to make the North East a beacon of sporting progress and success when the Olympics and Parlaympic Games come around in 2012.”‘
