THE PLONKER Vs THE HONEST NEWS REPORTER
In the previous post – Murdoch & Blair The Godfather: “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse” – I mentioned Jon Snow. Our twitter conversation developed from his initial wondering why Blair was in Paris last week to his asking me twice if I was paid for my support of Tony Blair. Clearly one would have to be a plonker NOT to be paid.
So I thought you might be interested in more of the recent Twitter interchange between Mr Snow and this plonker.
For those who don’t know, Jon Snow is a senior presenter (since 1989) at Channel 4, from where he runs a blog. A blog which provides an instant flavour of Mr Snow‘s opinions.
Some might wonder how come a broadcast journalist is able to hold down a job for 22 years, opine his political drops of pearly wisdom into the waiting and watching eyes and ears of tens of thousands, even millions over time, without any of the so afflicted chosen voting for those pearls he throws before … er … swine(?)
Evidently, this little piggy is not made of the deserving stuff. I’m not in the market for those particular pearls, Mr Snow.
It all started fairly innocently with this tweet which Mr Snow sent round his subscribers (Snow’s comments in red.) I have included some follow-on tweets in the thread from others for the flavour (others’ comments are in grey.)
Glimpsed in the UK Ambassador’s garden in Paris during last week’s Libya summit: Tony Blair. What was he doing there?
_____
I sent him this -
@jonsnowC4 – odd how this question got RTd 76 times! Don’t these people check things out with me? Could have told them DAYS ago. Er… did.
_____
Then Mr Snow responded with this -
@blairsupporter because it is almost impossible to divine where the ‘private’ Blair activities end and the ‘public’ ones start.
_____
So I responded with this -
@jonsnowC4 – I think it is almost impossible to separate private & public for ALL of us, in reality. Few of us are criticised as is T Blair
_____
And Jon snow said -
@blairsupporter Let’s await the Iraq Inquiry report: then you can tell us he was the only one who got it right and we can ALL be criticised.
_____
And I responded -
@jonsnowC4 -I don’t for one moment think Blair will come out of Chilcot with no criticism. Some of us are just fighting a press “blackwash”.
_____
At Snow’s own Tweet thread, & in a response to another tweep re Blair in Paris, I notice this -
@waggers5 Very hard to see what’capacity building’ on West Bank has to do with a meeting about the future of Libya
_____
Mr Snow’s lateral thinking is astounding, don’t you think?! He didn’t comment on my “blackwash” point, strangely (!) but instead Mr Snow started on a new tack -
in reply to my previous tweet ↑
_____
I told him the simple truth that I am not paid to defend TB, and copied into this tweet Blair’s Office as well as Ruth Turner, who DOES work for him -
replies ↓

_____
Another tweep piled in, annoyed at Mr Snow over this “paid” question and its inference -
SwankieSisterEileen Reid
@jonsnowC4 youre poisoning the well. Should be ashamed of yourself. Scurrilous questioning motives rather than argument. @blairsupporter
_____
And yet another said to Jon Snow -
@jonsnowC4 @blairsupporter Jon, if you think Channel 4 News’ coverage of Iraq and Chilcot has been impartial you don’t understand the term.
_____
My good friend and other ‘head’ Julie -
Then another Blair Supporter chipped in with this -
__________
There was a gap of a few hours, then this from-
@blairsupporter sure snow once said he always came away from down st agreeing with everything blair said. Hope I’m not wrong.
_____
And I said to Mr Hallett -
@geohalle – perhaps we should ask Mr Snow if he once said he always came away from down st agreeing with everything blair said.
@jonsnowC4
_____
Then Mr Snow came back with the “pay” query again, evidently disbelieving anyone can be so committed daft to give this support for no financial gain!
in reply to ↑
@blairsupporter @geohalle Wasn’t that the man’s great gift! You came away believing Blair’s everything until you ‘found out’: does he pay u?
_____
This tweep asked Snow -
@jonsnowC4: @blairsupporter You came away believing Blair’s everything until you ‘found out’ < Jon do you have any evidence Blair lied?
___
I don’t believe Mr Snow responded to this evidence request. He is clearly a “We All Knower”.
_____
And Julie RT’d a comment from ijangus & her response -
_____
Didn’t get too many of the usual suspects but there was this one -
in reply to ↑
_____
And then there was a bright spark who saw right through my disguise!
_____
This commenter made a fair point, though I did reply & told him the reasons for that -
@blairsupporter Without wishing to support Jon Snow here – you do act like a propaganda page for him & never mention anything bad…
_____
Julie asked me this on the “pay” query -
@blairsupporter Haven’t you told him twice you are not getting paid by Tony? Not *that* difficult to understand, eh B.? @jonsnowC4
_____
As the evening wore on -
_____
I tweeted in response to DHewson’s comment -
_____
When, out of the woodwork -
in reply to ↑
_____
To which, this response -
_____
And Julie responded to Luke -
in reply to ↑
As is the helpful way of the rational, Julie had a few more messages for the irrational Mr DHewson -
__________
So there we have it. I’ve had enough of this twittering/tweetering for one day. I expect you feel the same.
The lesson from Jon Snow’s input?
Whatever they try to tell you – don’t ever, ever, EVER suspect that our media – entire channels and newspapers of it - are anything other than neutral and non-judgemental, especially when it comes to Tony Blair.

I am staggered by all the hate directed towards our former Prime Minister. I believe that Tony Blair made the Iraq decision in good faith and is most certainly NOT a war criminal. If anyone should be tried at the Hague it should be those in the media for totally misrepresenting the information and facts. The media are to blame for fuelling this hatred as it is purely driven by them. (UK)

The greatest and most successful leader the Labour Party has ever had with the courage to fight the Islamist terrorists who really would like to kill us all, and you never hear a good word about him. The herd of independent minds, commentators, activists etc who have never had to make a difficult decision in their lives drown out all debate with their inane chants of war crimes and blood on his hands. Defend him at every chance. I just wish more people would do it. (Glasgow, UK)

Blair was the greatest Labour Prime Minister. It is a disgrace that the party has turned away from his legacy. Shame on Ed Miliband and his so-called ‘new generation’.

Good fun, isn’t our Mr Snow? Don’t forget to come back here and comment at any time. No moderating by me once I have agreed to approve.
