Following the Ban Blair-Baiting petition update on 27th January, two days before Mr Blair’s appearance at the Chilcot Inquiry, and this earlier update on 23rd January, there are now many more supportive comments at the Ban Blair-Baiting petition site. The New Statesman advertisement (right), paid for personally by a dedicated Tony Blair supporter (with no knowledge of or input from Mr Blair or his Office) has undoubtedly aided in this surge in activity.

Is this voicing of support and appreciation of a seriously traduced and great leader being reported by the mainstream media?

As John Rentoul might say“another question to which the answer is ‘No’.”

RECENT COMMENTS FOLLOW- FROM THE BAN BLAIR-BAITING PETITION HERE

    CLARE SHORT IS A TRAITOR

562, UK: Tony Blair was right to take the action he did. The attack in New York on 11th September 2001 was an act of war aimed at our way of life. Waging war against those who have like-minded ideas is the only response and “standing shoulder to shoulder” with the Americans is the right and proper way for this country to position itself. Remember the second world war and show respect!! Clare Short is nothing short of a traitor along with Piers Morgan et al and they are the ones who should be strung up.

BBC REVENGE FOR HUTTON – LAZY JOURNALISM

561, UK: Lazy journalism it seems is the way the BBC revenges itself itself for Hutton. Do they not remember it was lazy journalism that got them in the mess in the first place

BLAIR – ONE OF THE MOST COURAGEOUS OF ALL BRITISH PMs

559, Georgetown, Texas, USA: Tony Blair should be remembered as one of the most courageous of all British Prime Ministers.

BBC WITCH HUNT AGAINST NOBLE BLAIR

557, Bainbridge, NY, USA: I support Tony Blair and I deplore the BBC and their witch hunt. Tony acted nobly.

    APALLED AT THE CONTINUING VITRIOL

554, Haywards Heath, UK: I am just apalled at the continuing vitriol being hurled at TB over an honest (and brave) decision taken as PM (what he was elected and paid to do).

    LOVE

552, Leeds, UK: i love tb

BLAIR – GREATEST LEADER WORLD HAS SEEN IN A LONG TIME

551, Hounslow, London: tony blair is the greatest leader the world has seen in a long time. he took a difficult stand and did, not what was popular but what was right. he will be recognised as one of the architects of freedom in the middle east in a few decades from now. the whole region would transform following iraq’s democratic example. this will not happen overnight – tony probably realised this too but he took the difficult unpopular stand.

OUTSTANDING BLAIR – HIS JOB, TO TAKE DECISIONS

549, London: Blair was an outstanding prime minister doing his job very well. One of his jobs was to take decisions like going to war.

WHY MUST WE ALWAYS VILIFY OUR POLITICIANS?

548, UK: Blair was, on balance, good for Britain. Maybe he made the wrong decision about Iraq but that does not justify the torrent of one-sided criticism of his policies and his personal characteristics. Why must we always villify our politicians?

OUTSTANDING BLAIR WAS 110% CORRECT. PITY NO LONGER PM. GUTTER PRESS.

547, Portsmouth, Hampshire: Tony Blair was right and 110% correct on to invade based on the intelligence that we had at the time. Its just a pity he is no longer PM of this country, he has been the most outstanding PM of our time. We have the British Gutter press to thank for his constantly being hounded as they tout their Opinions that have been dressed up as FACTS. The Sun, Star to name just two have their own agenda and anyone who has their own mind knows it. Look at the facts and not the crap printed by them.

BEST PM WE HAVE EVER HAD – HE SHOULD BE KNIGHTED, NOT PERSECUTED

546, London: This man should be applauded for making the tough, but ultimately Correct, decision to take us into Iraq. A hardline needed to be taken with the evil dictator that is Sadaam and the world is left a safer place because of the actions of the UK/US in 2003. The man should be knighted not persecuted. The best PM we have ever had. Well done that man.

JUVENILE LIES OF THE ANT-BLAIR BRIGADE

545, UK: The juvenile hate-filled commenter named, something referring to “The Hague” shows the need for this petition in support of probably the greatest prime minister this country has known. I notice his comment has been removed before and yet it re-appears like the tired lies of the anti-Blair brigade. Go away, silly one, and play with a destructive site more suitable to your style rather than pollute this positive thinking petition. YOU are the dangerous one, not people calling for a fair hearing.

(the above comment refers to this*)

Back to the balanced among us …

UNELECTED CIVIL SERVANTS SIT IN JUDGEMENT OF A 3-TIMES ELECTED WINNER

537, UK: A government elected by a large majority and supported by a vote in Parliament took the country to war and overthrew a Facist dictator who enslaved his people. Now we have unelected civil servants, who’ve never had big decisions to make, sitting in judgement on a PM who won three consecutive elections.

MEDIA REACTION WILL DETER FUTURE LEADERS FROM LEADING

536, Staffs, UK: Tony Blair was the best PM since Atlee. He did his best to avoid war. He put the people of Britain first and the reaction from the media will deter future leaders from doing the same.

PARLIAMENT HAD A VOTE – DON’T BLAME HIM

535, Cleveland, UK: Mr. Blair gave Parliament a vote prior to the invasion. I know MPs who did not vote in favour. Those who complain now should have joined them. Dont blame Mr. Blair now

A ROYAL MARINE SAYS – HE WAS 110% RIGHT. HISTORY WILL PROVE IT.

532, Portsmouth, Hampshire: As a British Royal Marine, i fully believe Tony Blair was 110% RIGHT to take us into Iraq. People keep asking why they did not further seek a 2nd Resolution. France among others were never going to give a 2nd Resolution as they were currently selling certain items to Iraq. As were Russia among others. History will PROVE he was totally CORRECT and RIGHT to take us into Iraq to put down any chance of Sadaam pursuing a WMD programme. Well Done Mr Tony Blair. You have my best wishes and full support.

FROM A “LEFTIE” – HE WAS RIGHT. LEAVE HIM ALONE

531, Tyne & Wear, UK: I am a lefftie that thinks tony blair was right to remove saddam hussain and to intervene in sierra leone and bosnia and northern ireland. So leave him alone, history will decide. David Harbison.

“BLAIR  IS CRIMINAL – WHAT BOLLIX”

528, Galway, Ireland: everybody was crying war after 9/11 and london bombings now all that is forgotten and all of a sudden Blair is criminal. what a load of bollix…
    up Tony Blair!!!

    TIME FOR BALANCED REPORTING

527, Ashford, Kent, UK: An open inquiry; not an open season on Blair. Time for balanced reporting.

PEOPLE ASK WRONG QUESTION. THEY ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THE ONE THEY ASK

525, Windermere, UK: People want a simple questions answered and will get a simple answer in return. It will however not be the answer they want as they ask the wrong question and already know what answer they want.
Blair-baiting is not helping this inquiry, as Blair himself is not the aim of it, rather if the decision was right given the reasons.

BACKGROUND OF ‘BAITERS’ SHOULD BE LOOKED AT

523, UK: Perhaps someone should look into the background of the “baiters” so we know exactly where they are coming from. I believe the results could be quite interesting.

INQUIRY- FARCE. A TRULY GREAT LEADER IS BEING VILIFIED

520, Wirral, UK: This whole inquiry is a farce, pandering to those who like to use perfect hindsight to vilify one of the truly great leaders that this country has ever had. Saddam had WMD’s, he used WMD’s, do we SERIOUSLY believe that he used EVERY last drop on the Kurds. Grow up people.

    STOP BLAIR BAITING ALWAYS

518, UK: Not just during the inquiry but from now on!

HYSTERICAL, HYPOCRITICAL RESPONSE OF MEDIA IS DAMAGING

516, Trowbridge, Wiltshire: Blair made an error, but the hysterical response and misrepresentation by the media – who were fully supportive at the time – are hypocritical and damage the quality of political debate even further in this country.

PRESS SHOULD PRESENT BOTH SIDES OF STORY

515: If we are to respect the rule of law and the principle of innocent until proven guilty the press should present both sides of the story until the courts have made their decision.

ARGUABLY THE BEST PM SINCE CHURCHILL

510, Upper Weedon, Northamptonshire: Blair achieved a great deal for the UK in his ten years and it bodes ill for a nation who cannot appreciate it, in my view a sign of inadequacy on the part of his detractors; Blair is arguably the best PM since Churchill.

HE IS AN ANGEL OF GOD ON EARTH

509, Ghana: Mr,Blair please keep doing Gods work you have not done any wrong since you were in office and Queen of England was happy with you and happy with you.You have in-deed prove to an Angel of God on earth.Thank You.

    PEOPLE OF IRAQ ARE FREE

506, USA: Yes, and Sadam was a tyrant to his people denying them of human and civil rights just as the people in Iran are suffering under the regime of Amanutjob…the people of Iraq are free despite the continued militant attacks.

SADDENED & INCENSED – BLAIR WAS A GREAT PM, DESERVES BETTER THAN THIS

501, Liverpool: I have been deeply saddened and also incensed by the “pitchfork and lighted torches” mentality of the press over this. I am dismayed that this great lie they are building may become indisputable fact over the coming years. We we must somehow prevent this re-writing of history and ensure the truth is heard. Tony Blair was a great PM and deserves better than this!

*This flaming signature was submitted three times at the petition site.

“TEAR HIM APART & LEAVE HIM DEAD IN THE STREETS” – NOTE: – WE (THE BAN BLAIR-BAITING SIGNATORIES CALLING FOR A FAIR HEARING FOR MR BLAIR) ARE, IT SEEMS  – “DANGEROUS FANATICS”!!!!

544, Although some suggest that Blair should be humanely put down I say tear him apart – as he helped tear apart Iraq and then leave him dead in the streets, as he guaranteed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis would end up.

Many of those who sign this petition are simply ignorant rightists but a substantial proportion are engaged in deceit, both of others and themselves, about the awful murderous consequences of illegally invading Iraq.

    You are dangerous fanatics.

[Editor: What more is there to say than please get this petition spread far and wide. It is clearly essential.]

Dear B, thanks for the entertaining account of your day at the Inquiry. I chuckled all the way through the two blog posts. You make me laugh, sorry you weren’t able to get a pic of Lie No. 2! This week, I am resting while reflecting and thinking about all the news over past week. Bye for now. I.

Thanks for your comments, Ingrid. One of the wierdest things was that the yellers only had a few lines which they, contentedly it seemed, repeated ad nauseum. You’d think if they had any complex ARGUMENTS, since the whole business was actualy fairly complex, they’d have exercise their braincells a little.

“Tony Blair, Liar” and the other “jail” stuff gets a touch samey after a while.

    2. Little Ole American Says:

      Dear B,
Thank you for reprinting the comment from the sane, sound, “informed” member of the Royal Marines (thank you for your service) I’ve always said, the soldiers KNOW the truth and they KNEW what their mission was all about. The American soldiers are very fond of “our” British troops and know how hard they worked and sacrificed. It’s so sad the anti-war, anti-Blairites are so easily led by the noses of the “feral beasts”.
It renews my faith in the British, as a whole, to see these positive and FAIR comments you listed here. Cheers to them and to you from across the pond!
