  • UPDATE: George Mitchell has cancelled his trip to the Middle East, where he was expected to meet Israeli officials today. My thoughts? One, Israel’s settlement policy is hardly new, so why the huff over it? And two, Mitchell will still turn up on Friday in Russia for the Quartet meeting.

He hasn’t got blood on his hands. The anti-war nutters must not be allowed to damage Blair’s reputation further. He was a great PM, a great statesman and a great leader.”

    Ban Blair-Baiting

    16th March 2010

In all the Middle East hand-holding seen as necessary by the American President since his arrival at the White House, where he HASN’T been is an easy one –

    I S R A E L

    (Just so you know)

Obama & Netanyahu. No smiles following their meeting in May, 2009 in Washington.

Not that Obama became a “hostage to fortune” when he accepted this. His name had been added to the prospective candidates list almost before he’d got his feet under the White House table, far less DONE anything.

    Oh my… oh my.

Settlement row seen endangering US-brokered peace talks – excerpt:

Daniel Kurtzer, a former US ambassador to Egypt and Israel, said there was unhappiness among some Israelis that Obama had found time to visit three Muslim countries — Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — but not yet Israel.
“He should find a way to get there soon. It’s not going to make up for the year of all this griping, but still it will put this issue somewhat behind us”, Kurtzer said.

The atmosphere that this odd omission has created has some asking this about the ‘AWOL’ president –

Are Islamic forces astroturfing for Obama?

The Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir has been organizing protests in Indonesian cities against Obama’s pending trip to their country.

The group’s roots go far beyond Indonesia to an international network and Hizb ut-Tahrir members loudly advocate a belief that Muslims should unite in a single global state governed by Islamic (Sharia) law.

Yet the mainstream media brand Hizb ut-Tahrir a “conservative Islamic group” holding “peaceful demonstrations”.

Am I the only one who wonders where is the American President in this moment of international crisis in the Israeli/Palestinian issue?

Leaving it to Hillary Clinton and Tony Blair to take the flak? Now, whatever makes me wonder that?

A good article by Bruce Anderson at the Independent – “Obama has failed to bring peace to the Middle East”. His  remarks on Palestine statehood concur with those of Tony Blair. Of course Mr Anderson doesn’t refer to that meeting of minds.

“On 11 May (2009), King Abdullah of Jordan said the US was working on a “57-state solution” including the 57-member Organisation of The Islamic Conference to recognise Israel in return for a halt in construction and expansion of settlements, and its agreement to withdraw from land seized in 1967.”

Hizb ut-Tahrir is banned throughout the world, in many Muslim and non-Muslim lands, but not yet here in Britain.  London seems content to continue to be its world centre. Free speech an’ all that.

Far from being “conservative” HuT tries to inflitrate democracy in order to destroy it.

I seem to have mentioned this crowd of “conservatives” many times at this blog. Can’t imagine why.

Something must have really got to me this year!
