Pro-Palestinian activists hold down an Israeli commando on the Gaza-bound Turkish ship Mavi Marmara in the international waters of Mediterranean sea early May 31, 2010. Israeli marines stormed the Turkish aid ship bound for Gaza on Monday and nine pro-Palestinian activists were killed, triggering a diplomatic crisis and an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council. Picture taken May 31, 2010. REUTERS/Adem Ozkose/Gercek Hayat Magazine via IHH/Handout (TURKEY - Tags: POLITICS CIVIL UNREST) FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY.

Same picture BEFORE it was cropped for use in the pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel press, aka REUTERS(!?) Compare this with top picture above, cropped. The top, cropped version helps to obscure the knife in the hand of the non-violent "peace'n' lover" on the right. Ahh, we get it, peace'n'liars. The poor marine just slipped and cut himself going up the stairs. You guys were just helping him to his feet. Of course. What else?

From Spiegel Online – ‘Pictures in a Propaganda War’

    Excerpts, accompanyng the pictures:

An injured Israeli soldier on board the Mavi Marmara during the military raid on May 31. A propaganda war has emerged between Israel and pro-Palestinian activists about what occurred that morning. In this picture a knife can be seen in the hand of a pro-Gaza activist.

However, the picture that Reuters sent to its clients in the media had the knife cropped out. It was the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet that released the original photograph.

But, of course, no-one was lying or intending to mislead over the violent intent and actions of the peace-loving, peace making peace activists!

No question of that. They were just making the picture a little better focussed on the main issue – the injured, subdued, “defeated” Israeli marine.

    Yeah. Right.

    4. At the St Petersburg Economic Forum Medvedev urges”stronger efforts” in Mid East peace process, and talks to friends in the region.

‘Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday tensions in the Middle East had not eased and called for further efforts to advance the peace process.

“Strong efforts are needed just to improve the situation, let alone resolve it,” Medvedev said.

He said the situation in the Middle East had not improved since his visit to the Arab League headquarters in June 2009.

“The Palestinian issue is very complicated. The Gaza Strip is in a critical condition. It is deteriorating more and more each day. Therefore, much depends on the position of our countries,” Medvedev said in reference to Russia and Arab League countries during a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, who is also participating in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.

Moussa said the situation in the Middle East is going round in “a vicious circle.”

“Israel is not ready for peace and proximity talks between Israel and Palestine have not given any results. What is happening now is just crisis management, but the problem has to be solved,” Moussa said.

Moussa called the current situation “just a waste of time.”‘

    What would Moussa suggest, then?

    We’re all ears, Mr Moussa.

The knife is not being held in a offensive grip.

      Say….Why didn’t they kill him?

      • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

No. Quite right. The knife had clearly served its purpose. Cleaning under the nails and so on …

‘Peace activists’ don’t kill anyway, do they? They leave that to “nasty, evil” Israeli marines. Don’t they?

    2. fedup Says:

Gaza and the West Bank are the only “occupied” lands in the world. How can a country that calls itself the “only democracy in the middle east” (ie. Israel) impose such humiliating and depraved conditions on the previous inhabitants of the lands it violently took? In my opinion the Israeli marines were the terrorists in this debacle, unlawfully seizing an unarmed (knifes vs guns) vessel in international waters. Free Palestine or there will never be peace.

      • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

@ fedup – Hardly “occupied” unless you do not accept that the Israelis were there first and were actually deposed, brutally and by force by Palestinians. Oh, of course you don’t accept that.

    3. fedup Says:

When were the israelis brutally deposed by Palestinians from the land now known as Israel? If it´s 800 to 2000 years ago, your argument is hardly relevant. The Jewish regime (not Jews in general) has been slowly taking land and resources from the native palestinian population for generations. The land was not empty before – would you argue that a Russian Jewish immigrant that arrived in a fortified hilltop settlement in the West Bank has more rights to the land than a Palestinian whose family has been working the same land for over 10 generations?

      • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

The reason I refer to the Israelis having been removed centuries ago is because they WERE. Yet all we hear from such as you is that this is ‘Palestinian’ land, and historically so. Well, it depends on how far back we are ALL prepared to go. And some of us are only prepared to go as far back as it suits us.

Apart from all that there is a racist element at play. WHO exactly are the Palestinians? Was it Palestinians or Arabs who had claim to the land, etc.

Personally I agree that these historical arguments are hardly relevant, even if they DO favour the Israelis. And I would far rather that they sorted it out TODAY under today’s circumstances.

But I do not wish to see Israel out of the Middle East, and I don’t see why it should be, though that may well be the consequence of the arguments you are making. Many “Palestinians” and countries such as Iran DO want to see expelled permanently. On the other hand many Arab lands want Israel’s position strengthened in the region.
