    21st August 2010

I have some bones to pick with my new online friend Peter Reynolds. He’s been drifting back into his liberal leftiness. Which is odd, since he’s a Conservative. But there we go. This is the era of the End of Politics, is it not? It is the Day of the Jackass, sorry, the Individual Decider-by-Conscience and thus Immaculate Conceptual Policy-Maker.

So Peter the self-confessed Tory had this at his blog – Israel and Palestine To Hold Direct Peace Talks

Unfortunately Peter had to let his bias shine through with these pre-conceptions and thus assumptions:

“This is the news the whole world has been waiting for.  Israel has been driven to the negotiating table by the outcry against its brutal oppression of the Palestinian people.  Perhaps those nine heroes who sacrificed their lives on the Gaza convoy can take much of the credit for this.”

There are at least THREE things wrong with this paragraph:

    1. Israel was not driven to negotiate. (Quite the opposite is the case as I pointed out to him. Israel has been pushing for at least 18 months to negotiate despite the Palestinians’ backstepping and laying down of pre-conditions.)
    2. Israel is not “oppressing” the Palestinian people. (Many of them live in the West Bank. Many too in Israel. They are not oppressed by Israel. In the case of those living in Gaza they are governed by Fatah.  One Gazan, who works daily in Israel, even wrote to me here recently supporting Israel.) Not convinced? Watch the “oppression” here.)
    3. Those “nine heroes” were supposed charity (aka fundamentalists) from Turkey’s IHH. (This group set up the flotilla but were all on the Mavi Marmara. They attacked the soldiers as they landed from their helicopters. All available online to view, to those with eyes to see.)

As if that wasn’t bad enough Peter then goes and puts this up – “Republicans Reveal True Colours To Brits”

Excerpt: The story about the mosque being built at Ground Zero has been bubbling away for a few days.  This evening, on BBC Radio 4′s “PM” programme an interview with Scott Wheeler of the National Republican Trust fired my interest.  In fact, it made me explode with anger.

What he was annoyed about here was an American on Radio 4’s Thursday PM having the audacity to complain about the mosque/community centre being built very near Ground Zero.

(Listen here) If you just want to hear the relevant part scroll along to around 47 minutes.

Now, I wouldn’t say Mr Wheeler was the most elegant or eloquent speaker ever, but he is saying what many Americans think.

Peter should ask himself why those ‘liberals’ who keep saying politicians must listen suddenly close their ears, and hope politicians do likewise when people say things they don’t like? The worry is that even Peter probably doesn’t see that this issue defines the liberal intelligentsia. They are neither truly liberal, with a small “l”  nor all that intel bright. I even mentioned some of them in the previous post here.

Kill the Ground Zero Mosque TV Ad

I can tell, even without asking P. Reynolds that he will also be greatly up in arms about Douglas Murray’s remarks on Radio 4’s Any Questions tonight. Mr Murray said that he would have hoped the Muslims behind the building of this mosque would have been more sensitive to the feelings of non-Muslims in New York.

INSULTED is not the word, Mr Reynolds.

I’M BLOODY FURIOUS. And I’m not even American.

A recent comment: “I think many of those who are critical of TB seem to forget about somebody called Saddam Hussein. He was someone who left to his own devices again, as was becoming increasingly likely, would undoubtedly resumed his efforts to obtain and use WMD. He definately would not have changed his spots.”

Thanks for your comments. New Yorkers need support, because most people in NY and the US are opposed to the building of this mosque. There already are mosques in the NY City region, and it is merely a provocation. The world should instead focus on human rights issues within the Muslim world.

      best,

      Paolo Silv

        Paolo S.

        You’re most welcome.

Right now Britain is split on this. The usual suspects are saying that it will be “good” for “our principles of inclusivity and liberalism”. But there are many who are not happy about this. Will try to keep you posted on how the UK feels about it.

    2. Peter Reynolds Says:

Right, me ol’ pal. I’m listening to the replay of AQ now.

I can see already this is going to require another complaint to the BBC “Not the BBC” complaints department.

Why is Douglas Murray, this spotty, barely disguised poufter, zionist, pretty boy w**ker cluttering up my airwaves again? Who at the BBC is he letting give him one up the bum so they keep on giving him airtime?

      • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

PR – watch your anti-homosexual language, me ol’ mate, me ol’ chum. (Strictly in a man-love way of course.) It is now accompanying your anti-Israel/Zionsim lingo to your discredit.

Douglas is one of my heroes, strictly in a man-love way of course.

      • Peter Reynolds Says:

He can do what the F he wants with his revolting pubescent flesh except when he’s trying to ram it (his persona) down my throat!

        • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

Odd, since I feel exactly the same about those who oppose Murray vehemently. It must be human nature.

For instance, I was watching Clegg on a Talk to the People session a little while ago. I found myself wondering – why does his (and Cameron’s too) overuse of the hand actions irritate me so much? Especially when I did not find it irritating when Blair did it? In fact I found it just right when TB did it?

          Answer? Because I admired Blair.

As for dissembling. Only Israel? Will be posting the Panorama programme on the Mavi Marmara soon. Missed that too when it was shown. Can’t stand TV these days. Too passive for me.

          Here’s a preview for you, P. Part 2 –

Nope, didn’t see Libertine. Sounds a touch high-horsey for my liking.

      • Peter Reynolds Says:

        I missed this Panorama too.

Just for your reference, I get all my missed TV from http://www.thebox.bz. It’s a fantastic site. I highly recommend it.

      • Peter Reynolds Says:

Long, long, long, long, long intake of breath. (like a car salesman valuing your part exchange).

        Pause

        Pause again

        (smile gradually develops)

Of course I am, me ol’ pal. Leave it to me!

      • Peter Reynolds Says:

Email me at peter@peter-reynolds.co.uk with the email address you want the invite at.

        Or post it here

        • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

Will do, P. Thanks for that.

Just finished a new post on Tony Parsons comments at The Mirror, wanting Blair to donate a limb. There are some really hateful people in journalism. Nasty creatures.

      • Peter Reynolds Says:

I just watched Panorama. I accept that it was probably more of a political provocation than I first realised. The IHH certainly prepared well to defend the boat against attack but they were entitled to do so.

The Israelis attacked and were resisted. Evidently some Israeli commandos’ lives were spared despite nine of the flotilla members being killed. Israel should be grateful for that mercy. The blockade is illegal. The attack was an act of piracy.

As always with such events, it was not all black and white but the programme has confirmed what happened. Nine murders and multiple serious assaults were committed as part of an act of piracy. Some of the attackers were in fact, heroically rescued by some of the flotilla members. Clearly the flotilla members defended themselves against the attack as best they could.

Those in the Israeli government who ordered the attack are criminals.

        • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

Peter, at least you are open-minded enough to see where your misconceptions were. So there’s hope you might eventually see some of the other widespread misconceptions for what they are.

Your ‘illegality’ charges too are wrong, imho. As is your contention that the Israelis “attacked”. It was NOT an attack. They boarded all the other ships with NO violence at all. NONE. If the Israelis were bent on attacking, why weren’t they forceful towards the other ships? It would have been easy-peasy since no-one on those other ships was armed or prepared to DIE for Allah. Only the 70 IHH fundamentalists on the Mavi Marmara were. Only THEY caused the violence.

It only became an attack when the Israeli navy were attacked by the IHH members on that one ship.

As for the Israeli government being “criminals”. Strongly disagree, my old chum.

        ******

I doubt that we will ever agree on this. It is INCONCEIVABLE to me how you can deny that the Israeli pirates were the attackers!!!

So I propose to put this aside and continue to enjoy debating with you on other subjects.

        • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

Put it aside Peter, if you will. But it’d be helpful if you told us ignoramuses how come the “attacks” on the other ships were NEVER once reported, even by the anti-Israel press, as “attacks”. Only as “boardings”.

Simple. Because they weren’t attacks. Only the last one, on the MM was seen as an attack. The attacks [evidence – videos – eyes?] were ONLY initially from the IHH members on board. When the Israeli government released the videos, PROVING who attacked whom, the “Israeli atacks” took on a desperate ‘it wasn’t us it was them’ life of its own, as is always the case in this anti-Israel world today.

    3. Peter Reynolds Says:

AQ has now finished. I’m very, very disappointed that Pretty Boy DougieMugs didn’t get the bile rising in me once. Perhaps I missed something getting angry with the Thunderer. Let’s see if AA reveals anything

    4. Peter Reynolds Says:

There is no way on God’s earth that I’m anywhere to be seen on the left!

Liberal – yes. I prefer the term libertarian. (Did you ever see the film “The Libertine”? Such a disappointment. It was rubbish!)

“Israel was not driven to negotiate”

Israel has been posturing and pretending about negotiation. It’s classic dissembling. It ‘s been forced to get real about it because of the outcry over its neo-Nazi, politically inept behaviour concerning Gaza.

“Israel is not “oppressing” the Palestinian people”

Hogwash. Is Pretty Boy DougieMugs pulling your plonker?

“Those “nine heroes” were supposed charity (aka fundamentalists) from Turkey’s IHH.”

I agree with you that the evidence is there for all with eyes to see. Trouble is some peope are blind or need v v strong specs.

On the mosque, I don’t think you and I are far apart on this at all. I even agree with Pretty Boy DougieMugs that “the Muslims behind the building of this mosque would have been more sensitive to the feelings of non-Muslims”.

I’m sure you’ve read these words of mine elsewhere:

“If the construction of this mosque proceeds, subject to normal planning controls, it is the best possible proof of the wonderful values enshrined in the US constitution. It is a demonstration of America’s strength. Only cowards and hypocrites will oppose it.

Mind you, I think the Islamic activists behind this are stupid and they demean their own beliefs by their provocation.

Extremist Islam has to be resisted but not by abandoning our principles.

Good always triumphs over evil in the end – and our willingness to sacrifice for it is a measure of our worth.”

Anyway John, thanks for the big plug. Gotta get out from behind this desk. My eyes are boggling!
