Overthrow Tunisian President Ben Ali Died in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

[Please note: Ben Ali’s condition has not yet been confirmed officially.]

Still no update on this. Reports of his death may be exaggerated. But falling ill, or reports of same, seems to be the fate of recently deposed Middle East rulers – Mubarak in coma

UPDATE, 20th February: British broadcasters are reporting that a request for the extradition of Ben Ali from Saudi Arabia has been made by Tunisia over charges on the deaths of protesters. At the same time a large stash of jewellery and cash has been uncovered in his private rooms. With a wife like this and numerous charges likely to be hanging over him, he might be better off dead.

(AGI) Paris – Ex president of Tunisia, Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, is rumoured to have died in hospital in Jeddah. Negotiations are said to be under way for his return home for burial. A number of unconfirmed sources have reported his death on the internet. Ben Ali fled abroad on 14 January after a popular revolt brought an end to his 23 years in power. He has been in a coma for two days.

Jeddah, K.S.A.- After two days under coma, overthrow Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has died at a hospital in Jeddah, according to ‘France 2’ report. On February 17, source from Saudi Arabia reported that Ben Ali had suffered severe complications of a stroke and he is in critical condition. The 74-year-old former president and his family had fled to Saudi Arabia after he was forced to step down on 14 January to end his regime. The deposed president initially headed to exile in France but authorities there refused permission for his plane to land.

There is nothing on France 2 right now on this.

Has the former deposed president, accused of corruption and siphoning off millions from his own country, become another casualty of the unrest sweeping the Middle East and North Africa? Remember, the movements for change actually started with Tunisia. Somehow I don’t expect there will be many Tunisian tears shed if Mr Ben Ali is no more.

I have heard it said that Ben Ali has been known to have been ill for some time. The stroke that put him into a coma only happened a matter of days ago, a month after he left Tunisia.

Wikipedia has not yet anything on his passing or not.

I am staggered by all the hate directed towards our former Prime Minister. I believe that Tony Blair made the Iraq decision in good faith and is most certainly NOT a war criminal. If anyone should be tried at the Hague it should be those in the media for totally misrepresenting the information and facts. The media are to blame for fuelling this hatred as it is purely driven by them. (UK)

The greatest and most successful leader the Labour Party has ever had with the courage to fight the Islamist terrorists who really would like to kill us all, and you never hear a good word about him. The herd of independent minds, commentators, activists etc who have never had to make a difficult decision in their lives drown out all debate with their inane chants of war crimes and blood on his hands. Defend him at every chance. I just wish more people would do it. (Glasgow, UK)

Blair was the greatest Labour Prime Minister. It is a disgrace that the party has turned away from his legacy. Shame on Ed Miliband and his so-called ‘new generation’.

Is ben Ali dead, and if so why the Tunisian government did not announce that to her population??

Is it true that his wife Leila is now in Lybia with Moamar Gadafi firing missiles to his population??

      • keeptonyblairforpm Says:

I’ve no idea if he’s dead or not, to be blunt. Probably not dead yet. But illness is one way to avoid being called back to stand trial. It’s been used before.

As for Leila – that sounds like the story of one of Gaddafi’s sons shooting the other one. That story was doing the rounds the other night.

        Pinch of salt time.
