Israeli Navy Soldier Describes the Violent Mob Aboard Mavi Marmara
Hat tip CIFWatch
At my earlier post “Gaza flotilla – IDF – IHH – CIF – Turkey/Israel/International fallout” you can clearly see who exactly was first violent towards whom.
And here is a close-up video of the incidents seen earlier from the helicopter.
Close-Up Footage of Mavi Marmara Passengers Attacking IDF Soldiers
idfnadesk — 31 May 2010 — Video taken by IDF naval boat shows the passengers of the Mavi Marmara, one of the ships in the ‘Free Gaza’ Flotilla, violently attacking IDF soldiers who were trying to board the ship after having sent repeated requests for the boat to change course.
Large groups of passengers surrounded soldiers and beat them with metal poles and chairs, and threw one soldier over the side of the ship. Some passengers grabbed pistols from the IDF soldiers and opened fire. As a result of the attacks, seven IDF soldiers were injured, and nine of the passengers were killed.
The ‘Free Gaza’ Flotilla had publicly insisted on their non-violent intentions, however their violent attack on the IDF soldiers was clearly premeditated. They had knives, metal rods, firebombs and other items ready to use.
The BBC has a report and a kind of pick ‘n’ mix video of the last two releases by the Israelis. The BBC is getting desperate for information, since the Israelis, so far, have not allowed the impounded boat people to talk or tweet the world. Awww… diddums Beeb.
This kind of wording (not Clegg’s but the UKPress article) (my bolding) – “The storming of the ship – one of a flotilla of six vessels trying to take aid to Gaza in defiance of the Israeli blockade – drew worldwide condemnation” – is unhelpful AND inaccurate. If it could be described as “storming”, why did the “storming” of the other 5 ships not result in violent reaction?
I would be interested to find out what exactly was in that ship’s hold, and just how many of the innocent used peace-makers knew how closely associated many on this ship were to the Hamas-linked IHH (background pdf file on IHH).
Will Tony Blair as the Quartet’s Middle East envoy finally be permitted to use his diplomatic skills in this arena? As he should have been allowed to do with a political hand right from the start? Now that Obama is likely running scared of being seen to take sides?
Maybe, just maybe.

This site looks at how this incident has been reported. Watching the SkyNews and BBC 24 News here in Britain, it’s mind-boggling how the anti-Israel commenters on interview seem to be able to ignore completely the evidence of their own eyes.
