“Tony Blair is an Angel”. Not MY words. Those of a member of UKIP.

You meet some interesting people on Twitter. But I have to say that Les Critique @Ministryofspiel surprised even me.  At his new blog he writes in unblushing praise on a man I occasionally refer to, somewhat blushingly, as “my hero”.  As I told someone not that long ago – I’ve never really had one of those before. Well, more or less.

If I were to say that Tony Blair is an angel I’d have to prepare myself for the ‘you  sycophant/religious nutter‘ comments.  So, well done UKIP/Tory supporter Les Critique.  And thank you for permitting the cross-post here:

They both deserve a medal and the Nobel Peace Prize.

Ok I’m waiting for the rotten tomatoes to come out, death threats and lord knows what else!! and maybe I have contradicted myself and my beliefs, but I am a man who can admire someone from any political side, (but Tony really wasnt that far away from my side!!) I would call myself a “Blue Blairite” Yes I hate Labour vehemently and all Socialist, Left wing movements but Tony Blair was different.

Tony Blair is a remarkable man and incredible humanitarian man of peace, for I believe he and George W Bush saved the world.

I find it remarkable how a man can transform a party of horrific incompetence, a party in the pockets of the unions, singlehandedly (with a little help from his spinning friends!!)  transform a party, rotten to the core with communist dinosaurs and corrupt with blood money from the wicked wicked Trade Unions, a party with a vision to destroy life for those over a particular salary bracket! He made Labour electable and this man, with his vigour, energy, passion and drive did it and overturned a stale government of almost 20 years with a resounding majority. That is no mean feat, that is Tony Blair!!

Tony Blair is a Europhile, allowed the opening of the floodgates to mass immigrants, Brown ripped them off the hinges!! His ministers, ruined the Education system introducing a crippling top up fee system which would deprive many talented pupils a place in University, His government created a welfare system that made it pay to scrounge and do nothing with ones life, he (admittedly he did not want to do this) ended the English tradition and much loved Fox Hunting. He did a lot of terrible things for the country and giving Gordon Brown the reigns was the nail in the coffin for Britain, who in 3 years of leadership, destroyed the country and eclipsed the failings of 10 years of Blair. Gordon Brown was the death knell for Britain.

But where his government failed the UK, his character, his grit, compassion and determination may have saved the world.

Countless Prime Ministers tried and failed miserably to end the barbaric crusade of the evil Irish Republican Army, governments failing, cease fires ending, yet this man brokered a peace pact, The Good Friday Agreement, which virtually put out the flame of evil from the Republicans. Northern Ireland is now a safer place, the UK is a safer place, The IRA, would laugh with pleasure and consider it a feat as their bombs murdered children. Tony Blair was the one who said “no more” and he did something about it, which many had tried and failed.

In 1999 whilst the sick and evil Slobodan Milosevic’s army was destroying Yugoslavia, committing mass atrocities of rape, murdering men, women and innocent children, especially boys, the world stood by and watched. Whilst hearing the screams of terror, the machine guns firing and the smell of fire, blood and death in the air, The Yugoslavians must have been, whilst in the grip of incredible fear, praying for someone to come, praying to be rescued, praying for an Angel. God obviously heard. Tony Blair led a NATO coalition and freed the yugoslav people from unspeakable horror. Tony Blairs actions as in Northern Ireland liberated the country and gave the people the peace they thoroughly deserved. Whilst the victims will never recover from the trauma Milosevic put them through, Im sure they will always remember the lights in the sky, the huge “wings” from above coming to set them free. Thanks to Tony Blair.

911 changed the world, when the evil Osama Bin Laden orchestrated the greatest islamic terror atrocity the world has ever seen, he knew he had the world in his hands and to play with  as his toy and do with what he saw fit. He loved it. But of course Left Wing conspiracy theorists could not accept that a vile terror organisation was responsible, “its the Jews, its the Freemasons, Bush did it for oil, Its an Insurance job”!!! NO it was a crazed, evil islamic extremist who knew exactly what he was doing. When the “messiah” carried out the horrific attacks, he knew well that he was leading his people into war, luring the west into his trap! and that he did so!!

911 must have been an incredibly expensive operation and in my “Right wing” conspiracy theory, I would happily wager a fish supper and can, that Saddam Hussein had invested heavily in this wicked plot!!

In a way Bin Laden & Al Quaeda carried out a modern day Gun Powder plot and it wouldn’t shock me that in years to come, the Left Wing thugs of the world will wear Osama masks in the name of “Protest”.

So we have a nut job in Bin Laden who only had to say “hello” to get his flock gathered, a flock all over a very big planet, a flock so twisted and evil with a frightening gift of intimidation and manipulation recruiting people of all creeds and religion to join the evil cause. A man with funding who could do untold damage to the world.

Saddam Hussein, just as evil and twisted, did he have WMD’s? did he not? Well he either didnt or he did? I certainly believe he did!! So Mr Blix found Jack shit!! well hello!!! Nukes can be shifted!! duuuuhhhh!!!

So the world had 2 crazed extremist tyrants on the loose, one being shielded by the Afghans and their Extremist Taliban regime!!

The world needed protecting and there were only two people courageous enough to step up to the plate and effectively save the world!!, The Great George W Bush and our very own saviour, our “Angel” Tony Blair.

So Lets give the Left their way, its 911 again and we do nothing!!! We cry, we have tributes, we condemn Osama but we don’t go into Afghanistan!! We just let it be! The same for Saddam, he pricks the world around, threatening to nuke us, but hey sod him!!!

The atrocities of 911 would only have been the scratching of the surface had action not been taken and a message to the extremists sent that we will not tolerate terrorists and the world will not be held to ransom.

Yes lives have been lost tragically, but lets look at Iraq and the fanatics there how they treated the hostages they took, “beheadings, executions” these are the people that we have to deal with day in day out controlled by the mad men, Saddam & Osama!!!

The wars on Iraq and Afghanistan may have been long and bloody, put the end result will be a planet, a world saved from obliteration by fanatics.

The wars have been costly, in both lives and money but at what price our children’s children and so on.

The eyes of the world have been opened to the dangers of radical Islam and its teachings of hatred, violence and death. These people give the good people of Islam, which is a good religion based on peace, caring, love and loyalty a horrible name and sadly ropes them in to a war that they play no part in.

Tony Blair is a humanitarian as is George W Bush, both have terrible flaws domestically but my lord above they put their protective  arms around the world and and took the bullets of fanatics, the insults and hatred of the Left but in years and years to come, even maybe when they have both sadly passed, one day the world will read and watch and realise what great saviours they were and one day give these incredible men a huge;

THANK YOU.

I certainly do, every day.

Tony Blair is an Angel and a saviour, and in my opinion, one day he should be made a saint. But in my eyes and probably the people of Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan we are all unanimous, he should probably get the Nobel Peace prize.

Biblical History shows Lucifer to be an Angel also, he just got himself a bad name but look deeper and through the things written.

_______________

My thoughts: I haven’t yet looked at the ‘Lucifer’ reference! But I will. Probably. I just want to say thank you to Les Critique.

This gives strength to my long-held contention that not only right-wing Labour members appreciate Mr Blair and his record. It also proves, as I have said before, that Tony Blair was (probably still is given half a chance) THE Prime Minister this country should admire and be most proud of.  After all, which other British leader can you recall who laid his/her neck on the line for so many controversial causes – mainly humanitarian?

If there is a God let’s hope that both Messrs Blair & Bush see the day when the world recognises them for what they are; heroes.

Heroes first, then Angels.

IN CASE YOU WONDERED, I CHECKED WITH LES CRITIQUE BEFORE I USED THIS POST

1. I completely agree with everything that has been said on this website. As Prime Minister, Tony Blair worked tirelessly and selflessly in the interests of the people, and continues to do so today. He is primarily a humanitarian, and doesn’t deserve any of the vitriol that has been levelled at him. He was a great Prime Minister, is a thoroughly decent man; and should in my opinion, be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding work. – David Miliband (New Labour’s heir) for the next PM!

2. Best politician in Britain by a long way.

3. Fully support the petition. The criticism of Mr Blair has gone way beyond anything acceptable and seems to be carried out mainly by those who are looking to wash their hands of any involvement in supporting the Iraq war at the time. It is very easy to be ‘wise after the event’ and to make assumptions about how much Mr Blair knew or did not know before the war. In these people’s eyes, the former PM is guilty whatever the evidence.

4. An excellent petition this for a very undervalued PM. A PM who is not only the best in my lifetime but my parents lifetime too!

Blair Supporter is resuscitating the “Keep Tony Blair” blog

A LESSON FOR A BLAIRITE SPRING?

On 8th November I published this on The Jon Snow interview with Tony Blair after Philip Gould’s untimely death.

Then I ‘hibernated’ the blog; for time constraints, in the main.

Although it’s hardly yet spring I’ve been persuaded by a number of individuals and by several other factors that I should resuscitate the poor old thing.

All right, you knew I would, didn’t you? You know me better than I know myself! I know, I know.

FROM TOP to ZERO IN 22 MILLION QUICK NON-RETURNS?

Main reason is simple: once a website or blog is no longer being indexed by search engines, updated or is accessible it falls right out of search engine indexes. On thinking this through that seemed a pity, given that it can take many months, even years to get it back up there again.

I noticed a few days ago that a search for the keywords “Tony Blair” brought my blog up at number 7 of 22,300,000.

It seemed a pity to let all that work just go. Especially since some have told me they are using the blog for university and research purposes.

Also I noticed that tweeting the keywords “Blair Supporter” brings up 6,560,000 pages – the first page dominated entirely by my Twitter link or the blog itself or links to it.  I haven’t bothered to check the remaining 6,559,999 pages.

So there we go. Apologies to those who wondered, perhaps with some relief that my blog had gone for the long sleep – dead parrot-like – never to breathe Blairite hope again. Well, it’s stirring slowly back to life.

I imagine one or two others might welcome this resurrection a touch more.

I’ll end with a comment from the Ban Blair-Baiting petition. More updates below.Tony Blair, Prime Minister of the United Kingd...

“Blair was a great PM and is missed.”

Will Mount [a name, in case you wondered] says at The Spectator: “…Tony Blair now looks like he could be Mick Jagger’s dad…”

Er, no. Not quite, Mr Mount.

I do realise the press is here in order to mislead, especially about Tony Blair. But this ‘observation’ at the Spectator’s Arts & Culture section is utter baloney.

Take a quick look at recent pictures of both these gentlemen. One has an ageing scraggy neck, which now matches the craggy face he had from youth.  The other hasn’t and never did have. Jagger is aged 67. Blair is 57.

Good hair colour, Mick. Pity the neck shows the years.

[Above: Picture of Mick Jagger, March 2010, from Celebrity News Buzz]

[Below: Picture of Tony Blair, September 2010, from ContactMusic]

Natural hair colour. Clothes don't detract from the youthful, sophisticated look.

The reason for this sort of silly remark at The Spectator, as it tries its hand at ‘knowing’ journalism, has less to do with the artiste mentioned than the politician mentioned.

It is a constant irritant for some, like that itch on your back you can’t quite reach, that Tony Blair is as big a star in his firmament as Mick and the boys are in theirs.

Just so you know, I actually quite like The Stones, though not as much as The Beatles. Below are some of The Stones’ performances, carefully chosen for meaning for whatever your political leaning. These videos may be a few years old but Mick can still leap around and belt it out, it seems.  Just like Paul McCartney, who I saw recently in concert. He was fantastic. Three hours on stage, singing every number. And he is 68.

Rolling Stones – Sympathy For The Devil

Rolling Stones – You Can’t Always Get What You Want

OK, you’ve persuaded me. Here are more pictures from the McCartney concert,  followed by a video of mine about some young guy.

For those of you who remember what it was like when politicians communicated and inspired I put this video together. I used another great British Band – The Bee Gees. I thought the words were appropriate.

Tony Blair – Everlasting Words Part 1

If you’re really keen on the Beatles and their songs and lyrics, you’ll need to see the videos I made on Gordon Brown here at my YouTube Channel. I know, I know. But the songs are brilliant.

I am staggered by all the hate directed towards our former Prime Minister. I believe that Tony Blair made the Iraq decision in good faith and is most certainly NOT a war criminal. If anyone should be tried at the Hague it should be those in the media for totally misrepresenting the information and facts. The media are to blame for fuelling this hatred as it is purely driven by them. (UK)

Ed Miliband is the 23rd leader of the Labour party

His task, as for all party leaders, is to lead his party back to government

THIS IS WHY I SUGGEST THAT TASK IS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE

In the period of the Labour party’s existence, over 100 years, there have only EVER been FOUR Labour party leaders who have led their party into government. FOUR.  Ever. MacDonald in 1923. Attlee in 1945. Wilson in 1964. Blair in 1997.

I do hate to be a party pooper, but I feel somehow duty bound to remind the present Labour party what it lost when it allowed the removal of Tony Blair. He was their most successful leader ever, and the only Labour leader to win three consecutive general elections.

So, soak up these facts and in particular note the number of years between each first election victory of each winner and the next winner’s first election victory: 22/19/33.

If Ed Miliband aims to be the FIFTH leader to lead his party to power he will indeed be a record-breaker. It is only four months since Labour was ousted. The Labour party may, if history is indicative of anything at all, have another 24 years to wait before they are led into power once more. Perhaps that is why Mr Miliband talks of  ‘a new generation’. They’re likely to need a few.

Although these were technically leaders of the Labour Party, they only assumed this role because of the death or resignation of the incumbent and were not elected to the post. They were in effect acting temporary leaders. Margaret Beckett was deputy leader when leader John Smith unexpectedly died, and she automatically became leader as a result of his death. Similarly, George Brown, who became leader after the death of Hugh Gaitskell, had been deputy leader at the time of Gaitskell’s death. Harriet Harman was deputy leader when Gordon Brown resigned the leadership in the wake of his May 2010 election defeat.

Another striking aspect of the length of time Labour party leaders have served is how short most of them were. With Clement Attlee way out ahead at 20 years , only Blair and Wilson served 10 years or more (both served 13). Excluding those three and the three temporary leaders of 1963, 1994 and 2010, the average time served as leaders was 5.3 years.

Please note that as Prime Minister, Blair outdid all of them, even Wilson by two years, at 10 and 8 respectively.

NEW POLL – WAS TONY BLAIR RIGHT TO CANCEL BOOK-SIGNING? (vote here)

Click to Buy Tony Blair’s ‘A Journey’

[John Rentoul has tweeted this post here (and Julie’s great post)]

At his website Tony Blair has this new message:

Statement from Tony Blair on Wednesday’s book signing

Statement from Tony Blair on Wednesday’s book signing

Monday, Sep 06, 2010 in Office of Tony Blair

Tony Blair today decided to cancel Wednesday’s planned signing at Waterstone’s Piccadilly to avoid the inconvenience to the public it would have caused in Central London.

Mr Blair will sign books for Waterstone’s  so that copies will be available from the Piccadilly store from 9am on Thursday, 9th September.

Tony Blair said: “I very much enjoyed meeting my readers in Dublin and was looking forward to doing the same in London.

“However, I have decided not to go ahead with the signing as I don’t want the public to be inconvenienced by the inevitable hassle caused by protestors. I know the Metropolitan Police would, as ever, have done a superb job in managing any disruption but I do not wish to impose an extra strain on police resources, simply for a book signing.

“I’m really sorry for those – as ever the majority – who would have come to have their books signed by me in person. I hope they understand.”

    __________

This is outrageous. It is a dreadful reflection of our society that a former prime minister – ANY FORMER PRIME MINISTER – feels compelled to cancel his book-signing for those who appreciate him due to the feared reaction of those who do not. Where are his human rights? Where are ours – the majority?

WE’RE ALL HAMAS/GAZANS/PALESTINIANS THE MINORITY NOW

Personally I’d lock the peace-and-loving bastards up – every one of them, and throw away the key! They are not making a ‘political’ point. Such points have been made over and over for years. We heard them. They are trying to uproot the mores AND STANDARDS of our civilised society and I for one want rid of them. NOW!

OK, I’m better now, thank you. Got that off my chest.

On a calmer and personal note I’m relieved that I hadn’t made travel arrangements for this signing. But I am sure there are many hundreds, perhaps even thousands who are fuming about this. We really DO have to tackle the extent to which the minority seems to control the lives of the majority. The world truly is turned upside down when THIS happens. At the Dublin signing there were a couple of hundred protesters and three times that number queuing to meet Mr Blair. It would have been the same sort of ratio on Wednesday in London, perhaps even more REAL GENUINE peace-n-lovers.

The Irish Garda (Police) are confronted by yelling "peace 'n' lovers" at Blair's Dublin book-signing on Saturday

[Picture above from Irish Times report]

It is hard to see this as anything other than a victory for the violent extremists who caused the Irish Police this sort of trouble at the weekend. You don’t think they’re violent extremists? Think again.

THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM – TRULY

At the previous post I wrote this:

“with Eamonn Holmes on SKY this morning – [Tony Blair interview watch here] – Mr Blair made it clear that there is some re-consideration of the second of his book signings, the one planned for Wednesday at Waterstone’s in London.

But I’d like to make a couple of points here: many, many British citizens think it is time these riotous anti-Iraq war demonstrators’ rights were treated in proportion to the rights of the rest of us. Indeed some suggest that it is they who should be locked up, and not the former prime minister. There is also a growing resentment that even after three years out of office Mr Blair is still not free to travel and speak in his own country. The rest of us, it seems, are not permitted to hear or see him for fear of this vocal and virulent minority.

If this book-signing is cancelled this will be seen as a victory for the riotous and violent anarchists and Socialist Worker associates who disrupted Saturday’s Dublin signing at Eason’s. (See here) And, of course, that argument would have legs.

    WHY, OH WHY, OH WHY?

There may have been actual threats we do not know of. There may have been fears about the presence of the BNP and other extremists, as on Saturday in Dublin. They may have concluded that silly kids like the one who LIED to fellow “admirers” of Mr Blair could do so again. This time, armed with the benefit of her report, anyone so minded could inflict serious damage on Mr Blair or others around him.

As I said at the previous post, these people must be contained or stopped by any means lawful. They are making life intolerably difficult for the rest of us, as well as for Mr Blair.

The inevitable result of this capitulation is that he will never, CAN never appear in public AGAIN! The violent, posing as non-violent, only have to make it impossible for him and THEY will win!?!?!?

How crazy is that?  Sort it out, someone! Mr Cameron? This could be YOU one day.

THEY DO NOT HAVE THIS RIGHT. THEY SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO BULLY AND HARASS HIM LIKE THIS, even if he accepts it as “part of politics today”.

I repeat – don’t let the haters and so-called peace-lovers win in our democracy. This is important.

Tom Carew at Facebook has the following comments:

The agitators had 3 main elements. [a] Ever-present chief agitator was a local Councillor, Richard Boyd-Barrett, chief of both the ultra-left Trotskyite SWP=Socialist Workers Party – but not many real *workers* among that lot, and their fr…ont, the IAWM=Irish anti-war movement, [b] the friends of Hamas from IPSC= Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, who blame Israel for everything, never support Fatah or condemn Hamas, and [c] the renegade *dissident republican* gang, a tiny fringe who oppose the *Peace Process* and end of IRA campaign.

Typical of the real Ireland is a student in Galway on the West coast, Patrick Rochford, 22, who saw Tony interviewed on TV, decided to get a late bus for his 130 miles journey, and arrived in Dublin at 3.30 AM, where he waited 7 hours until 10.30 AM when the store opened.

Patrick Rochford said *I want to show solidarity with Tony Blair and prove that we in Ireland are not an ungrateful lot. He has shown great leadership in Ireland and Irish people should be happy that the world is a safer place with Saddam Hussein gone*.

The leading guru of the Trot SWP in Ireland is Head of a university Sociology Dept – that subject, like English, seems to incubate very many of these ultra-left ideologues – maybe cogent argument, conceptual clarity and rigor – or self-critical examination of methods or assumptions – are not demanded in those theory-laden and jargon-obscured fields, as now propagated by some academics.

Tony Blair – Friday Sept 3 interview re his new Autobiography – on RTE 1= Irish state-owned TV. His first book-signing was on Saturday Sept 4 in Dublin where 700 waited, from as early as 3.30 AM until Eason’s city center store opened at 10.30 AM. The usual agitators numbered 200 and were the same gang whose revolutionary political GPS directs them regularly NEVER to the Iranian Embassy but only to the Israeli one. Stoning women SLOWLY to death and Holocaust denial are both OK.

They shout their nonsensical language of war criminal (ridiculous) and liar (untrue, unless you think the entire international intelligence community was lying at the same time – see Chris Mullin via John Rentoul here).  You would think that Blair was some kind of dictator figure who forced us into war.  The truth is that, after months of anguished debate, soul searching and record breaking marches, the House of Commons voted in favour of taking the country to war, after a tremendous speech by Blair.

Ironically, these protesters seem pretty detached from the democratic processes in this country.  Indeed, many of them seem more attached to a handful of tinpot dictators around the world.

You may disagree with Blair on almost every major issue but the violence of potential violence of protesters should not stop citizens from meeting their PM of a decade.  Tony Blair won three elections with landslide majorities.  One of these elections was two years after the decision to go to war. A recent poll of academics marked him down as the third most successful PM since the war.  His autobiography has been one of the best selling of all time.

It is only reasonable that people would want to attend his book signings.  It is rather a shame that the protests of a handful of activists has prevented those book signings from taking place.  The protesters will probably regard the cancellation as a triumph.

What it really represents is a defeat for pluralism and free speech.  It represents the triumph of an anti democratic mob.”

Guardian: WATERSTONE’S MANAGING DIRECTOR,  Dominic Myers, echoes my thoughts. He said, “these [signed copies] would be sold on a first come, first served basis, with one copy per customer. Our job as a bookseller is to bring books to our customers, and where possible enable them to meet authors as well.”

“It is a matter of regret that, because of the likely actions of a minority, our customers are now not able to meet a three-times elected prime minister of the United Kingdom whose book has become our fastest-selling autobiography ever.”

Blair told ITV’s new breakfast programme, Daybreak, it was “sad” that people wanted to disrupt such events and admitted he was “concerned” the BNP would be involved in protests.

He hinted that he was seeking to make a return to British political life, but admitted it would be “very difficult” for him to do so.

UPDATE: A propos of nothing to do with the Labour leadership fun and games, you need to watch this. PRICELESS. It’ll make you laugh or at least smile. Guaranteed. OK, here it is –

    SHUT UP – YOU WINNERS!!!

After Peter Mandelson‘s warning (video) about the leadership of Labour (aka  New Labour) and the sadly inevitable response to the Dark Lord’s words, Iain Martin puts it succinctly here. [The links in the next two paragraphs are not Mr Martin’s, but have been added automatically by WordPress’s wise new tool.]

“At last, the Labour leadership race has come alive. The Dark Lord (Mandelson) has clearly got sick of it being a mealy-mouthed affair and has criticized Ed Miliband — saying he wants to hark back to an age before New Labour rather than reaching out into floating voter land. It was a perfectly fairly worded critique, the normal stuff of healthy, robust political exchange in a democracy.

But his comments have been treated as a declaration of war. Lord Kinnock, cited by the Dark Lord as a Miliband E supporter, says Mandelson should shut up (although he typically takes 150 words to say it rather than two). Mandelson should now retire with dignity. Lord Hattersley (Kinnock’s deputy from the days when Labour didn’t win elections) joins in, accusing Mandelson of factionalism. Note the term “factionalism”; haven’t heard that charge in a while, another echo of Labour’s struggles with itself in the 1980s. Polly Toynbee in the Guardian today gets very excited, and tells the Blairite veterans to bow out and make way for a new generation (an order I presume she doesn’t envisage being extended to veteran newspaper columnists).”

    TB/GBs  – THE CONTINUING ADVENTURE…?

PART 2 – NK/PM – [Kinnock/Mandelson.] Notable aside and of course just a happy/unhappy coincidence that those initials  – NK PM – were NEVER actually seen side-by-side.

    1.) Blair Memoirs? “You’re a loser, Gordon”

Well, maybe he’ll say this. Only one day to find out.

You can order Tony Blair’s ‘A Journey’ here , at 40% reduction. Due for release on 2nd September.

If he does criticise Brown (and how could he not in at least some areas?) it is said …

2.) At The Mirror that Brown will hit back. WHAT? The clunking fist? Again? Oooooh!

3.) Guardian:  Polly Toynbee (aka “Labour’s vain venal has been [who needs] to bow out and shut up. Read the comments. You might then understand WHY New Labour’s job is only half-complete.

4.) Guido Fawkes chuckled at Alan Johnson, who IS/WAS (you choose) allowed to comment on Labour’s future leadership.

Peter Mandelson accuses Brown’s henchman, Tom Watson (Source)

    Tom Watson

A fat lot of good 'killing off' Blair did you, Mr Brown-Nose-Lackey-Watson.

He [Mandelson] claims Mr Watson, MP for West Bromwich East, was acting under orders from Gordon Brown when he led a rebellion against Tony Blair which succeeded in forcing the former Prime Minister to quit Downing Street early.

‘Mr Blair was spared having to give in to demands to resign immediately because of a backlash against the plotters from party activists.

“What ultimately turned the tide was that not only in the Commons, but across the party, there was growing anger. Most of it was directed at Tom Watson, but only slightly less at Gordon himself. The Labour Party switchboard, website and email in-baskets were full of messages voicing fury at the way Tony was being treated.”’

Earlier I tweeted this tw*t Watson:

blairsupporter @tom_watson You’ve irritated MANY, including many in your own party. You and your ilk – welcome to the political wilderness.18 more years?

    John Rentoul re-tweeted this –

JohnRentoul “I think Peter’s account of my resignation is just supposition.” Tom Watson’s response to Mandelson version of the coup via @blairsupporter

Some people might suggest that Blair Supporters go on too much about the 2006 bloodless coup. In case you’ve forgotten it was when an elected Prime Minister was surgically removed from office by the mad, bad, deranged and ugly. Without a by-your-leave to the electorate! Without a general election or even internal leadership election a “new” Prime Minister – Gordon Brown – was imposed upon the country. And we now know where that got us.

I imagine some think we Blair Supporters are supposed to thank God the coup was ‘bloodless’ given the ‘mafia-like’ tendencies of Brown and friends? I doubt if people will still feel so sanguine over the removal of Tony Blair in 12 – 20 years.  When/if Labour has still  had no sniff of power, repeating the years between 1979 and 1997 until their then Golden Boy won it back for them and then held power for Labour for three consecutive election wins – a historical first for Labour – will they then turn on the real culprits, Brown, Watson, Balls, Whelan and the rest of the gang of bullies?

Or will the mournful, blameless cry just be – ‘Oh for the Golden Days of NEW Labour’ ? Followed by ‘Who the hell is/was Tom Watson anyway?’

    Birmingham Post article follows:

West Brom MP Tom Watson under fire in Mandelson’s autobiography

Jul 18 2010 By Jonathan Walker

Lord Mandelson has revealed his fury at West Midlands MP Tom Watson, in his autobiography detailing the untold story of New Labour.

He claims Mr Watson, MP for West Bromwich East, was acting under orders from Gordon Brown when he led a rebellion against Tony Blair which succeeded in forcing the former Prime Minister to quit Downing Street early.

But speaking to the Birmingham Post, Mr Watson denied the claims – and said he would set out what really happened in his own biography, telling the truth about the New Labour years.

The row dates back to 2006, when Mr Watson was seen as the ringleader of an attempt by Labour MPs to force Mr Blair out by signing a letter demanding his resignation.

REMINDER:  I wrote extensively on Tom Watson’s involvement with Brown’s summer 2006 ‘coup’.  Coup … or … How To Kill The Leader Without Anyone Getting Blamed and Coup – Brown: “nuffink to do wiv me, Guv”

Mr Watson resigned from his position as a defence minister at the same time. Although he was a friend and ally of Gordon Brown, then Chancellor, he has always denied Mr Brown was involved in the plot.

The coup, in 2006, forced Mr Blair to abandon his pledge to serve a full third term in office – which would have meant remaining in Downing Street until 2009 or 2010 – and he resigned in June 2007, allowing Mr Brown to take over.

In his autobiography, The Third Man, Lord Mandelson lays bare the internal battles which he claims sabotaged Tony Blair’s government.

    Peter Mandelson with his autobiography

Giving his account of the revolt, he writes: “Now Gordon was ready to move. The claim that he knew nothing in advance of the backbench plot over the week that followed is frankly incredible: the ringleader, Tom Watson, the Labour MP for West Bromwich East and one of Gordon’s closest allies, would not in those days have blown his nose without Gordon’s say-so.”

He adds: “Given that Tom was a fully-fledged member of Team Brown, who owed his promotion as a junior defence minister to Gordon’s lobbying, any pretence that Tony’s next-door neighbour was a mere spectator was now gone.”

And Lord Mandelson claims former Birmingham Erdington MP Sion Simon (Lab) was enticed to join the plot because he was angry at not being given a Ministerial job by Mr Blair. But Mr Blair was spared having to give in to demands to resign immediately because of a backlash against the plotters from party activists.

“What ultimately turned the tide was that not only in the Commons, but across the party, there was growing anger. Most of it was directed at Tom Watson, but only slightly less at Gordon himself. The Labour Party switchboard, website and email in-baskets were full of messages voicing fury at the way Tony was being treated.”

Lord Mandelson admits that his anger continued even after Gordon Brown asked him to return to government in 2008 as Business Secretary, after four years way from Westminster as a European Commissioner in Brussels.

But he says he received a warm welcome from Mr Watson and other Brown footsoldiers such as Dudley North MP Ian Austin.

“There was a similarly rapid rapprochement with people like Ian Austin and even Tom Watson, close Gordon aides who had previously worked against me and Tony, but who now welcomed me back.”

Mr Watson said: “One day I will get around to writing an accurate account of my side of the New Labour story. “Over the years I have defied the will of Tony, Gordon and Peter, much to their fury on occasion.

“I think Peter’s account of my resignation is just supposition.”
